Why I created Joyfully Crafting and what you’ll find here…

Posted by Cherise Greski on

Hi, my name is Cherise and I have been an enthusiastic crafter for over 45 years.

My first craft was a horse, paint-by-number set, I earned through winning a contest selling Girl Scout cookies.

It didn’t take me long to discover crochet, tie-dye, macramé, patches and paper mache. Back then, in the 60s, finding supplies meant going to the local five and dime (think Dollar Tree) and hoping they’d have enough of what you wanted or in a color you’d actually like.

Fast forward… the internet arrived in the 90s. I love to say that I built websites when the web was young. My focus was local DIY stores and higher education. Opening an online store was something I didn’t tackle.

Now, locating supplies is so much easier. There are dozens, if not hundreds of sites dedicated to a specific craft, technique or approach and it can be a bit overwhelming. I know, I’ve looked at so many my eyes get crossed!

But, many crafters are not just one craft types. Certainly, I’m not. Depending on the day of the week, time of year, mood I’m in, you might find me crocheting, making greeting cards and sewing curtains almost simultaneously. My home is a perpetual crafting studio. LOL

So, why Joyfully Crafting?

My desire is to share my literal JOY of crafting. I have taught crafts for almost as long as I have been crafting. I wanted to provide good quality supplies, at reasonable prices along with educational directions, tutorials and help along the way. Additionally, one of my greatest joys is sharing techniques I’ve discovered along the way and help someone have an ‘ah-ha’ moment.

Sure, you can go to a dedicated site, yet, if you’re a ‘multi-serial-crafter’ like I am, it is easier to go to one site and find what you need for all your interests. Here, at Joyfully Crafting, I expect to provide not only traditional crafting supplies (yarn, papers, paint) but also the newest electronic craft tools and techniques.

Additionally, I love to hunt down new tools, techniques and toys which I will share with all of you. So, I invite you to look around (the site is small but varied) and I plan to add items weekly. I will also have a ‘Craft of the Month’ section where I will highlight a craft to get your creative juices flowing.

If you live in the Chicagoland area, come stop by my studio to visit – 10708 W 31st Street, Westchester IL. The Grand Opening of the studio is scheduled for the weekend of June 29, 2018. Hope to see you there.

And, always Joyfully Craft
